From Roman Estate to Modern Stud Farm.
The stable is situated in a historical area. Below the area the Romans built a castellet of on of their cohorts, supporting their defense line "Limes". It was the ultimate armed border line of the Roman Empire against the german tribes and reached from Laiz over 550 kilometres through the nowadays federal states of Rheinand-Plalz, Hessen, Baden-Württemberg and Bayern.
The expansive stable and it's land show that also in ancient times horses were kept here. If the Romans can therefore be seen as the founding fathers of the famous horse breeding in the Schwaebian Alb can not be proved. But it's for sure a fact that they brought equestrian knowledge and their horses over the alb mountains to this place.
Rolf-Dieter Eberspaecher comes from an enthusiastic riding family. His father was one of the founding members of the Esslingen Riding Club and there was no question that his son would try riding at a very early age on the back of one of the older horses. As an Amateur Jumping rider he was successful up to the 1.40 Level on horses he had trained by himself. His greatest success was in 1980: The Wuerttemberg Team Championship Title in 3 Day Eventing with his horse Menelaos.Today he is an engaged farmer who manages the 50 hectare of land, and is always there to give advice to the Charlottenhof team of riders. If he has enough time, he accompanies Soeren von Roenne to International Jumping competitions.
The sport side of riding has never stood in the foreground for Heidi Eberspaecher. Next to her commitment to the improvement and business side of the Stud, she is also very interested in improving and building the Dressage horse breeding programme. Also the co-workers in her own company that she founded 25 yrs. ago need her help sometimes.
Rolf-Dieter and Heidi Eberspaecher met at the Esslingen Riding Club. From the beginning it was clear that at sometime they wanted to start something together with horses. At the start they became members of a riding stables and then later on took over the property. Unfortunately the property was not made for successful horse breeding purposes due to the fact it was too small. The Eberspaechers dreamed of a bigger property and started to look around. They were offered a large farm - A dream says Heidi Eberspaecher even today. Unfortunately due to land planning there dream was cancelled, but the name of the property stayed with them. A good friend offered the Eberspaechers a smaller farm in Gomadingen - a "Hoefle" that they ended up purchasing. This small farm has now grown into a modern horse breeding facility with farming, horse breeding and training. After many years of growth you can see the success in the breeding programme. The Eberspaechers are proud of their own horses that are winning at all levels of competition.
